Safari experience

Elephant, buffalo and bushbuck move freely through the lodge’s unfenced grounds offering safari travellers at the Kambaku River Sands Lodge up close and personal experiences with the game.  Bird enthusiasts can watch the fascinating bird life from the local hide at the Twins Dam, and exhilarating overnight-sleep-outs are also available.

Game drives

Morning and evening game drives, in an uncovered vehicle, provide guests with the perfect vantage point to capture spectacular photos of the 'Big 5' and other wildlife.  As Timbavati is also home to the famous White Lions, the lodge can afford guests the unique opportunity of viewing these incredible wild cats

Bush walks

Malaria Status and Animals
  • The Timbavati Game Reserve in South Africa does fall within the malaria area, specifically in the summer months.  It is recommended to take malaria prophylaxis.  We do advise to make use of mosquito repellents during a stay.   

    The Kambaku River Sands Lodge's suites are equipped with Mosquito nets as well as Mosquito repellent.

    Elephants, buffalo and bushbuck wonder through the unfenced camp and the famous White Lions can be found in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve.

The Kambaku River Sands Lodge in the Timbavati Nature Reserve in South Africa features ten thatched suites, each stylishly decorated to satisfy even the most discerning guest.  Each suite has its private viewing deck as well as air conditioning ensuring that guests remain comfortable in the heat of the day. Gorgeous en-suite bathrooms offer double showers, a spa bath and a private toilet with views of the surrounding bush.

Directions

Access to the Kambaku River Sands Lodge by flights

Flights to the Eastgate Airport are available direct from Johannesburg or Cape Town. Guests landing at the Eastgate Airport are collected and transferred to the lodge. Specially chartered flights can be arranged on request.

Directions to the to the Kambaku River Sands Lodge from Johannesburg by road

From Johannesburg head for eMalahleni (Witbank) on the N12 highway.
This road becomes the N4.
Continue the N4 until you see the Belfast turnoff.
Take the Belfast turn off and head into the little town of Belfast.
Once in the City, you will see a signpost for Dullstroom / Lydenburg. Turn right toward Dullstroom/Lydenburg.
Continue this road for approximately 30kms until you reach Dullstroom. Continue straight through the village of Dullstroom and head for Lydenburg, approximately 50kms.
You will come to a T-Junction.
Turn left and head into the town of Lydenburg.
At the second set of traffic lights, turn left.
This is a ring road that will take you out of town and onto the R36 towards the village of Ohrigstad.
Once on this road, you will head directly for Hoedspruit.
Once in Hoedspruit, continue straight through the town.
You will go over a small bridge and then at the four-way intersection you will turn right onto the R40. Head out of the city for approximately six km.
Turn left at the Timbavati / Eastgate Airport road. You will go through a security/control gate and then head directly for the Timbavati Nature Reserve Gate, which is roughly 18kms further on.
Once at the Timbavati Nature Reserve Gate visitors are required to pay the entrance fee to the reserve and the conservation levy will be settled directly at the lodge.
Once in the reserve, continue straight for approximately 10kms, and then turn right when you see the direction sign board.
Follow the Kambaku River Sands signs to the lodge.

Directions to theKambaku River Sands Lodge from Nelspruit by road

From Nelspruit take the R40 past White River and continue to Hazyview, then Bushbuckridge and Acornhoek.
Carry on straight along this road past the Orpen road turnoff, until you see the Hoedspruit turn off to your right.
Turn right and continue this road until eventually you see the main Timbavati/ Eastgate Airport road on your right.
Turn right here. You will go through a security/control gate and then head directly for the Timbavati Nature Reserve Gate, which is roughly 18kms further on.
Once in the Timbavati Game Reserve, continue straight for approximately
10kms, and then turn right when you see the direction sign board.
Follow the Kambaku River Sands signs to the lodge.

By Air to Hoedspruit

SA Express offer daily flights to Hoedspruit/Eastgate Airport (30km from Kambaku) from Johannesburg and Cape Town. Alternatively, one can get daily flights into Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA) in Nelspruit (120 km from Kambaku) from all the key cities such as Johannesburg and Cape Town. Transfers from both airports are available on request. It is also possible to arrange for a private charter which lands directly in the Timbavati Game Reserve.
