Activities, Sports & Leisure

Game Drives or Walking Safaris

Game Drives are in state-of-the-art safari vehicles with bucket seats and drop-down armrests. Led by experienced rangers, the game drives give guests an insight into animals, big and small, birds and the flora and fauna in the area. Exploring the reserve on foot allows you to absorb every detail of the bush as you get up close and personal with the animals and the environment. Short walks are standard after the game drives. However, longer walks can be arranged on request.

Specialist safaris

The river system in the reserve is home to over 350 species of birds, and the Lodge offers specialist birding safaris through this area. Private drives or walks that are focused specifically on birding give enthusiasts the chance to take the time to track, monitor and capture these beautiful birds on film.

Frogging Safaris are led in the summer months and take place in the evening, led by torchlight. Frogs are located, caught by net, examined and then released back into their natural habitat. The frog calls resonate throughout the night, creating a natural symphony.

Excursions

Tours in a local village are also available where guests can interact with the local people and learn more about their way of life. Helicopter flights over the gorge and rivers offer Arial views of the animals, waterfalls and the spectacular Blyde River Canyon. Elephant back rides and elephant interactions are also on offer not far from Leopard Hills Game Lodge.
