Access
Vehicle access to the lodge is via 4x4 vehicle only. The airport at Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport is the closest airport for guests who wish to arrive by plane. With regular flights from Johannesburg (OR Tambo) to Eastgate, this is a suitable travel option. Flights also land here from Cape Town. Guests travelling via the Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport are met by Makumu representatives and transferred to the Lodge. The road transfer time from Hoedspruit to Makumu is about 1 hour.
Directions from Johannesburg:
Travel along the N12 East passing Witbank (eMalahleni) through to Belfast, this section is approximately 200km.
At Belfast follow signs to Dullstroom along the R540, continue through until reaching Lydenburg (Mashishing).
Follow signs for Orighstad along the R36, approximately 40km after Orighstad you will enter the Abel Erasmus pass travelling through the J.G Strydom tunnel.
The road will change to the R527 to Hoedspruit.
The travelling time by road to this point from JHB is about 4.5 hours.
Once through Hoedspruit travel towards Klaserie town for 7km.
Turn left onto Argyle road (signposted Eastgate Airport) travel for approximately 20km until reaching the Access Control Security Gate.
Please enquire at this point for directions to Klaserie Private Nature Reserve Headquarters. All guests will be collected from this point.
