The wine cellar at the Mateya Safari Lodge is also available for private dining, offering a more distinctly elegant setting. And for a spectacular view of the plains, both the glass-walled main dining room and lounge deck afford uninterrupted panoramic views of the reserve.

The Wellness Centre at Mateya Safari Lodge offers guests a variety of treatment options in the heart of the African wilderness. The products used at the spa contain no mineral oils or artificial colours but instead are comprised of natural products.

Activities, Sports & Leisure

Wildlife activities

Experienced game rangers and trackers led the game drives and guided walking safaris. The game drives are conducted in custom designed 4x4 vehicles and can take a maximum of 4 people per drive, ensuring a personal experience. The vehicles are equipped with day and night vision binoculars, pouches for jackets and equipment, shade cover and side flaps for protection from the elements, warm blankets and flasks. Bush walks give guests the opportunity to view wildlife close up while examining the delicate eco-system. Rangers will also provide insight into the ancient bushmen art of tracking on the bush walks.

Gym

A well-equipped cardiovascular gym is available at the Wellness Centre at Mateya for guests to make use of.

Social Responsibility

  • The local villages that surround the Mateya Safari Lodge have high levels of unemployment. To ensure that the communities benefit from the reserve, most of the staff that work at Mateya is employment from these local communities.

    Training is provided in all areas of hospitality for this personnel while contractors that work at the hotel are also from the local communities. Mateya Safari Lodge has also sponsored the building of a creche and school within the nearby Molatedi Village.

The Mateya Safari Lodge consists of five individually designed luxury air-conditioned thatched suites. Each suite blends with its natural surroundings and offers uninterrupted views of the waterhole and plains. Guests can enjoy a balance of sophistication and comfort, in total privacy and harmony with nature.

The original African artworks that can be found in each suite seem to reflect the atmosphere of the Madikwe Reserve - a beautiful, vital, and untamed stretch of the Bush. Lying under the shade of the whole window sala, or immersing in the fresh water of one's rim-flow swimming pool, each and every feature of the suite provides total privacy and comfort.

The en-suite bathroom has a secluded open-air shower inviting you to luxuriate in a delightful setting that is designed to satisfy guests' ultimate enjoyment.

Directions

1. Take the N1/N4 from Johannesburg towards Zeerust
2. In Zeerust turn right at the First National Bank
3. Turn right into the Madikwe Game Reserve at the Abjaterskop Gate
4. Follow the main road for 11km until you reach a T-junction
5. Turn left and drive for a further 2km
6. Turn left following the Derdepoort signs
7. After 12km you will reach a 4-way intersection, turn left here
8. After 1km turn left to Mateya Safari Lodge
