Restaurants

Dining at Sanctuary Swala Lodge

Most of the meals are served on the main dining deck under an enormous baobab tree while lunch can also be enjoyed from picnic baskets in the park. Sundowner drinks and canapés are served around the campfire and are followed by a three-course dinner. Private dinners on your tent deck or in the bush are available upon advanced request.

Wildlife activities

Intimate safari experiences are on offer at Sanctuary Swala. Game drives are offered in customised safari vehicles in either the morning and afternoons. Other wildlife activities including walking safaris, night game drives and hot air ballooning can be booked at an additional cost.

Community visits

Sanctuary Swala Lodge supports a local primary school in the surrounding community. Guests may visit the local village and meet the students. Guests can also learn about the beekeeping project that the lodge helps to fund.

Malaria Status and Animals

  • All travellers are advised to take precautions against malaria before travelling to Sanctuary Swala Lodge. 

    Sanctuary Swala is within Tarangire National Park which is famous for its abundance of elephant, impala, kudu, giraffe, buffalo, lion, cheetah and leopard.

Children Policy

  • Children aged 12 years and above are welcomed at Sanctuary Swala.

Social Responsibility

  • As part of a commitment to the community, Sanctuary Swala contributed to the building of Gijedabung Primary School. Sanctuary Swala also helped to develop a beekeeping project in Mwika which provides jobs and income to the village.

Directions

The Tarangire National Park is 115 kilometres from Arusha, and the camp itself is another 67 kilometres into the park.
Scheduled and charter flights are available from Arusha. Flying time from Arusha is approximately 25 minutes (then a 30-minute drive to the camp). Aircraft land at the Kuro Airstrip.
