The fantastic safari experience at the Tanda Tula Safari Camp is not only about up-close encounters with Africa's untamed wildlife, excellent service and comfortable accommodation, but also about delicious meals.

At the Tanda Tula Safari Camp in South Africa, the head chef considers each dining occasion more than just a meal.  Ranging from mouth-watering, traditional African dishes, to modern dining creations, Tanda Tula's head chef creates magic resulting in cuisine guaranteed to please.

In the evening, guests are invited to enjoy a pleasant dinner in the outdoor boma, under the starlit sky in the garden or, for the adventurous guests, in the riverbed near the safari camp. Tanda Tula's amazing bush breakfasts are served at the bush location and after breakfast, guests may experience a guided safari walk back to Tanda Tula Safari Camp with the ranger.

Game viewing

Guests staying at the Tanda Tula Safari Camp in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve of South Africa are guided by professional game rangers and trackers during the early morning and evening safaris through the untamed African bush in open Land Rovers or on foot.  A memorable African bush experience is guaranteed to guests with up-close encounters with wildlife, including the 'Big Five': lion, rhino, buffalo, elephant and leopard.
 
The game rich Timbavati Private Nature Reserve forms part of South Africa's Greater Kruger National Park.  This region of South Africa is renowned for its many lion pride including the famous White Lions of the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve.  Furthermore, the Timbavati Game Reserve is only home to 8 lodges in more than 50,000 hectares ensuring that visitors experience the African bush in its most natural state.

Walking safaris

Guests staying at the Tanda Tula Safari Camp in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve may choose between walking safaris and game drives in an open Land Rover. Safari walks through the bush offer a unique chance for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers to explore the magnificent African wildlife up close.

Tanda Tula's bush walks, namely the Sunrise bush walk and the Mid morning bush walk, are led by qualified rangers and trackers.  The bush walks offered at the Tanda Tula Safari Camp are available to children who are 14 years and older.

Machaton Hide

In the Bush, the Tanda Tula Safari Lodge built an excellent hide on the Machaton Dam.  It is here where private picnics and the so called 'stars' are available upon request.  Tanda Tula's Machaton Hide is also part of the lodge's Overnight Walking Safari experience.

Star Beds at Tanda Tula

Guests staying at the Tanda Tula Safari Camp in South Africa have the unique opportunity to spend a memorable night under the stars at the Machaton Hide, which overlooks the scenic waterhole on the banks of the Machaton riverbed.  After the evening game drive, travellers are taken to the bush hide with a delicious picnic dinner.
 
The oil lanterns are lit, the comfortable beds at the camp are nicely made up with linen and duvets and during winter the hot-water-bottles await guests.  A spotlight assists guests observe the nocturnal wildlife at the dam while the radio which has a direct connection with the Tanda Tula Safari main camp ensures guests feel safe at all times.

In the morning, once guests have enjoyed coffee and rusks, Tanda Tula's ranger collects guests for an adventurous game drive..

Overnight Walking Safari at Tanda Tula

The Tanda Tula Safari Camp in the Timbavati Game Reserve offers a once-in-a-lifetime wildlife experience: the Two Night Walking Safari.
 
The Two Night Walking Safari offers guests an opportunity to explore Africa's wildlife on foot and from a close distance while sleeping under the stars.  This wildlife experience at Tanda Tula is suitable for outdoor nature enthusiasts who like hiking, bird watching, fauna and flora as well as on foot game tracking.

Swimming

The Tanda Tula Safari Camp features an outdoor, infinity swimming pool which faces a large watering hole to which a variety of African wildlife are attracted to, including the 'Big Five'.  Loungers surround the swimming in the garden setting which is a great place for relaxation.

Riverbed Picnics

At the Tanda Tula Safari Camp riverbed picnics are available whereby guests enjoy a delicious picnic lunch in the riverbed in proximity to the camp. This activity provides a relaxing and reasonable way to spend the afternoon, away from the main camp in complete privacy. Guests admire the African wildlife while enjoying the picnic lunch which has been prepared by the lodge's experienced chefs.

Malaria Status and Animals
  • The Timbavati Private Nature Reserve of South Africa is a malaria area.  It is, therefore, advisable to take malaria prophylaxes and consult a doctor before staying at the Tanda Tula Safari Camp.

    The famous Timbavati Private Nature Reserve belongs to the Greater Kruger National Park.  This area has many lion pride including the great White Lions as well as the close encounters with Africa's 'Big Five', including rhino, buffalo, elephant, lion and leopard.

Children Policy
  • Children over eight years are welcome at the Tanda Tula Safari Camp in South Africa.  Children who are under 12 years pay 50% of the rate if sharing a tent with the parents. Children occupying their tent will be classed as adults and pay the nightly adult rate.

    Parents are to take note that there are no fences around the Tanda Tula Safari Camp and that no special children facilities are available such as playgrounds. Therefore, it is recommended to large families to hire a private game vehicle and game ranger at an additional cost.

The flight duration from Cape Town to Hoedspruit is about 2 hours 40 minutes and from Johannesburg, the flight time to Hoedspruit is 1 hour.

Another option for guests is to fly to the Nelspruit Airport (Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport KMIA) and then book a road transfer to the Tanda Tula Safari Camp. The road transfer from Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, to the Tanda Tula Safari Camp takes about 3 hours. From Hoedspruit Airport to the Tanda Tula Safari Camp it takes about 45 minutes by road transfer.

Tanda Tula offers its private exclusive private airplane charter service which provides guests with a large flexibility of the arrival and departure. This private charter service allows guests to fly from the Tanda Tula Safari Camp to other destinations. The aircraft used for the private charter flights is a Beechcraft King Air B200, which is a pressurised twin-turbine engine plane capable of seating a maximum of 11 guests.
