Dining at the Tangala Safari Camp

The meals served at the Tangala Safari Lodge in the Thornybush Private Game Reserve of South Africa are prepared on an open fire or with gas cookers.  The meals are traditionally South African and add to the safari experience.

Directions

Driving directions from Hoedspruit to the Tangala Safari Camp in the Thornybush Private Game Reserve:

From Johannesburg to Tangala (6 hours):

The N12 to Emalahleni (Witbank), where the N12 highway links up with the N4 highway.

Continue with the N4 in the direction Mbombela (Nelspruit).

Approximately 60 km past Middleburg take the R 540 to your left towards Belfast.

Travel though the towns of eMakhazeni (Belfast) and eMnotweni (Dullstroom) to Mashishing (Lydenburg).

Take the R 36 (which becomes the R 527) towards Hoedspruit, passing through Ohrigstad and descending down the Able Erasmus Pass.

At Hoedspruit (40min to 1hour to lodge) continue through town, over the railway bridge and at the 4way stop take the R 40 south (to the right) towards Bushbuckridge/Klaserie.

After about 22km take a left turn onto the Guernsey road.

(It is the 2nd main road to the left after Hoedspruit).

Guernsey road is a 12km stretch and it will become a gravel road after approximately 5km.

At the T-junction turn right, Tangala’s gate will be 200m further on your left.

From the gate to the lodge is 7.2km



GPS Tangala main gate 24° 28' 43.03” S & 31° 06' 58.35” E then follow signboards to lodge or enter these camp coordinates: From the gate: 24°29'8.47"S & 31°10'9.16"E (Please don’t enter these from the start of your journey)
